THE LYCEUM SCHOOL IS THE WORST INSTITUTION I HAVE EVER ATTENDED.The quality of education at The Lyceum is poor and it... is accompanied by the most awful teaching experience I have ever received. The teaching style there is very old fashioned and the teachers for sciences are in no way compatible to teach A level sciences, which are some of the most demanding A level subjects. The teachers there will blame you for not understanding a concept. Mehr Zaidi who is the teacher for Biology, is very discouraging. She is an extremely negative teacher who would call out the test scores of each individual person during class and would not only embarrass them but also criticise them, as well as come up with reasons as to why they didn’t perform well. All the reasons she stated were false and the real answer is that she is inadequate for her profession. In an institution which prides itself on having excellence with education this approach is unacceptable. The reality is that at The Lyceum they only humiliate their students rather than aiding or encouraging them.I moved to Pakistan from the UK and took an admission into Lyceum with all science subjects, aiming to enter the medical field and was not incapable with my learning in any way. However, The teachers at The Lyceum were extremely unsupportive, as well as discouraging and did not even try to guide me correctly. When I failed my midterms due to their poor teaching and criticism, The teachers for Chemistry (Shabnum Haidermota) and Biology (Mehr Zaidi) held a meeting with my parents in which they told them that the science subjects are not my “cup of tea” and I should change my subjects and profession because I will never get an admission into university for dentistry. A note from the guidance counsellor was also included in my report card stating, “her grades display that she is not able to study these subjects and should change them and repeat the AS Level year with new subjects.” Additionally, the school refused to register me for my A level sciences and forced me to take my AS Level CIE exams privately. These actions shattered my confidence to the point where out of concern, my parents took the decision to withdraw me from The Lyceum. This school has harassed me beyond the limit. It is absurd that Lyceum is renowned solely on the basis of the academic achievements earned by supposedly “all” of their students. This in fact is their dishonestly and misguidance. They ‘cherrypick’ students to educate. Comparably the ones who may struggle to adjust to A level studies are discriminated against and presented with no alternate option apart from attempting their exams privately. Equal opportunities are not given to all the students here. The behaviour of my guidance counsellor (Sidra Falak Qureshi) was just as unsatisfactory as the teachers. She would arrange meetings with my parents just for the sole purpose of belittling me. The school set many obstacles in my path and also did not provide any sufficient information on the education system in Pakistan to somebody who had just transitioned from a different system. I persevered my way through A levels by the support of my parents and by taking many tuitions. I was tormented in this way because of the demoralising staff hired at Lyceum, who exercise archaic methods. Today, I have successfully taken an admission into a high ranking University in Pakistan to study dentistry (BDS). The unsupportive teachers at Lyceum told me that this impossible and that this profession was not for me. The only people in the wrong profession were those teachers who performed their own jobs poorly and held me back. I can only think of how much I would’ve regretted it if I had underestimated myself and dropped my subjects.I would never recommend this school to anybody due to its poor standards.read more

This is a brilliant school, it opened a whole new world for me and allowed me to critically examine the world around... me. Making private tuitions a thing of the past. Highly recommended.read more
