Schools in KP to reopen with immediate effect

The Elementary and Secondary Education Department (ESED) on June 16, 2021 notified reopening of all public and private primary, middle, high and higher secondary schools across the province with immediate effect. All classes of primary, middle, high and higher secondary schools in winter zone areas would be held according to normal school timings while classes in summer zone area schools would be from 7am to 10am with already notified Covid -19 Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs). District Education Officers (DEOs) of the districts in winter zone would notify Union Councils and areas with high temperatures and hot weathers for implementation of the above mentioned schedule. They would closely monitor temperatures in other UCs and areas and take necessary action accordingly. Moreover, the students of class 9th to 12 would be taught only those subjects in which they will appear in the board examination 2021. It is worth mentioning here that previously the provincial government had decided to reopen schools and colleges for class nine to intermediate from May 24 and on June 13 another notification was issued in which it had been announced that in the summer zone areas all education institutes from primary to middle will remain closed due to the hot weather. But in another U-turn just three days after the previous announcement now another notification has been issued, opening all private and public sector schools. “This decision has been taken after a slight improvement in the weather after most of the districts in the province received heavy rainfall, bringing the much needed relief from the scorching sun,” said an official while talking to The Express Tribune.
